Peter Mokaba Stadium
Location: Polokwane, Limpopo Seating Capacity: 46,000
Named after one of the most historical figures of the South African apartheid regime, Peter Mokaba was a member of the South African parliament, deputy minister in the government of Nelson Mandela and president of the South African governing party’s youth wing, the ANC Youth League.
Peter Mokaba Stadium is another newly built stadium for World Cup 2010, and is constructed next to the old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The architectural design of the stadium was inspired by the local Baobo tree. It is located close to the centre of Pietersburg, making it easy for 2010 World Cup ticket holders to get around.
Polokwane is situated mid-way between the mid section of the Kruger Park, 150 kilometers to the east, and the game parks of the Waterberg Mountain range 100 kilometers to the southwest. Both park areas are home to the “Big 5” animals – lions, elephants, Black rhinos, leopards and Cape buffaloes.
For World Cup games in Polokwane, it is advisable to stay in the Polokwane area as it is not close enough to drive from any other soccer cities for games.
