Team Profile

Japan has participated in three FIFA World Cups and won the Asian cup 3 times since 1992. Japan made it to their first World Cup appearance in France 1998. World Cup 2010 in South Africa will be their fourth World Cup appearance.

After an abysmal showing during the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where the team didn’t break out from the pack of the group standings, much effort has been put into the team. They added to their roster world class players including the two-time Asian player of the Year Hidetoshi Nakata.

Japan is fierce competitor on the international stage but has yet to make waves internationally. The feeling is that Japan has to have a proven goal scorer step up for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa if they are to be a contender.
