Rent out spare bedrooms or entire homes directly to guests visiting the World Cup

If you are a homeowner in South Africa with some spare space – whether it’s a bedroom, a sofa/couch, or an entire home – turn that unused space into extra income. The 2010 World Cup is a major event that will draw millions of spectators from around the world, and hundreds of thousands of overseas visitors to South Africa. Hotel capacity will be extremely limited and tremendously expensive during this time. By becoming a iStopOver Host during the World Cup, you can earn extra cash while helping visitors to the World Cup who are desperately in need of places to stay. Anyone can list a space to rent and it’s free.

It’s simple. Just sign up to iStopOver for World Cup 2010 (it’s FREE) then head over to the Post a Listing page. You can create as many listings as you want (also FREE) for all the spaces you wish to rent out. Your listing contains all the information prospective Guests would want to see – lots of photos, a description of the place, a calendar of availability, a bio of yourself, rental rates and more…

Once you publish a listing, travelers looking for rooms for rent can send you requests to rent directly from you. Approve bookings as you please and we’ll worry about holding the finances – to ensure you get paid on successful stays. There are no obligations – you decide who stays and when. So go ahead, start earning money on your unused space and enjoy the Games! The 2010 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 11, 2010 around South Africa, with the finals being held at Soccer City in Johannesburg. If you would like to rent out your place for any periods of time other than the World Cup, check out iStopOver for Home Rentals, which lets Hosts anywhere in the world list their spaces.

How Does iStopOver Work?

Your listings will be viewed by tons of travelers looking for a more local experience and a cheaper hotel alternative. People who like what you’ve got can send you a request to book certain dates. If you are happy with the Guest and have agreed on dates and a price, information is exchanged and the Guest pays for the stay to iStopOver. When the Guest arrives they will hand over a Reservation Code and you will enter it on the website. One business day after the guest checks in, we will transfer the money to you – that’s it! There is no cost to you. The Guest will incur a small fee on top of your listing price to cover processing.

Secure Payment Process

iStopOver’s payment process makes the financial transaction safe and secure. By acting as an intermediary between you and the Guest, we protect you from money scams and no-shows – commonly associated with classified ads websites – so we lower the risk.

Hosts in South Africa get paid by one of two methods: We offer payment via check (cheque) or by direct bank deposit. South African Hosts please note: Guests pay us by credit card in foreign currency using Paypal. While you can create your listing in South African Rand, Paypal does not support payments in Rand. Consequently, for listings in Rand, Guest payments will be in US Dollars. You will be paid in Rand one business day after the Guest checks in at the then-current US Dollar to Rand conversion rate.

The Process

Don’t Worry, There’s No Obligation

As a Host, you have complete control over who stays with you and there is no obligation to rent whatsoever. Feel free to communicate with all prospective Guests and choose to rent only to who you feel comfortable with. You can make your listings available whenever you like and can turn them on or off as you wish.
