Team Profile

Having missed out on qualification for Korea/Japan 2002 by just two points, the Hondurans hit rock bottom on the road to Germany 2006 by failing to even reach the hexagonal final stage for the first time on history. They were eliminated by Panama and Costa Rica in their preliminary group. However, this experience has given new life to the Honduran squad as this qualified for the World Cup for the second time in history at South Africa 2010.On this occasion they have put their faith in the highly regarded Colombian coach Reinaldo Rueda, who coached the Colombian national team during the qualifiers for Germany 2006.

Rueda has assembled a excellent blend of youth and experience for soccer 2010 as he strives to recreate the glory days. Adapting a very professional approach to the task at hand, he quickly won over the players who recognise in his firm yet likeable manner a person who can lead them to bigger and better things.

David Suazo, known as the Panther, is the most valued asset for the Honduras team and is perhaps the best forward in all of Central America currently. Suazo combines explosive pace with a scoring touch and has made big impression at Inter Milan, the Premier Soccer League football club in which he plays.

Also worthy of mention in the Honduran side are players of the stature of Noel Valladares (Olimpia), Amado Guevara (Motagua) and Maynor Figueroa (Olimpia).
