Team Profile

The Cameroon national football team, nicknamed Lions Indomptables (Indomitable Lions), is Africa’s most successful national football club. Cameroon has qualified for the FIFA World Cup five times, 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002. Cameroon has qualified for more World Cup Finals than any other African nation. South Africa 2010 will be Cameroon’s sixth World Cup appearance.

They were the first African team to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup when they did it in 1990, losing to England in extra time. Cameroon have also won 4 African Nations Cups, as well as gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Cameroon has many talented footballers including three-time CAF African Footballer of the Year Samuel Eto’o and the long-serving Rigobert Song the first African player to earn 100 caps in international competition.

The team is currently coached by veteran Otto Pfister, former Togo coach during World Cup Germany 2006.

Cameroon has made five out of the last six World Cup finals events, missing the last event in Germany 2006, when a last minute penalty was missed in their match against Egypt, leaving them two points short of reaching the Germany.
