Summer in Toronto is a brief but wonderful season.
Summerlicious in Toronto
We come out of hibernation searching for sun, warmth, company and of course good food.
Good food is something that Toronto has plenty of. We have numerous renowned chefs that add culture, innovation and a “taste” level to the city that makes it a gastronome’s paradise.
From hole in the walls to fine dining, diversity of cultures and fusions, there is rarely a craving that can’t be satisfied while in Toronto.
To encourage the experimentation of restaurants, neighborhoods and chefs every year Toronto puts on two highly anticipated and successful events – Winterlicious and Summerlicious.
For just over two weeks (July 9 – 25) 150 restaurants across Toronto will offer three course price fix menus. Lunch menus will be offered, depending on the restaurant, at the following price points: $15, $20 or $25. The dinner menus will be offered at $25, $35 or $45. All menus include a starter, an entree and dessert.
Even if you were to eat each meal at one of the Summerlicious restaurants for every day that the event runs, you would only be able to try out 34 restaurants. So I am going to try to narrow it down a little for you.
For me the true benefit of Summerlicious is realized in going to those restaurants at the upper end of the spectrum that I either may not frequent regularly, have not had the opportunity to try or may have been outside of my budget.
However, in the Summer, I also have the criteria of dining “al fresco” whenever possible to make the most out of our very short season.
So, to that end, I have narrowed down the Summerlicious restaurants to my top 5, in terms of extraordinary food and reputation, that also have outdoor space.
The Fifth Grill, Jump Cafe & Bar, Auberge du Pommier, Bymark and Noce .
