YOU GET: 1 private bedroom (9' x 9'9") in a shared 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo. Your room includes a Queen-size, pillow top mattress, two nightstands with drawers, a full closet with wire baskets and hangers. I provide clean, fresh white linens on the bed, and all the clean, white plush towels you need (bath size, personal size and face cloth). You have exclusive use of your very own stylish, modern guest bathroom with a shower stall featuring a rainforest shower head. I have hotel size body wash, soap and shampoo if you need it. When you walk in, on your bed will be your keys, fresh drinking cups, a schedule for the free exercises classes in the building, a map to the city.
WHERE I AM: I'm living in the other bedroom and have my own bathroom in there. I'm available to offer advice about the city, to have a nice conversation with, or to help you with any needs that come up. If I'm not at home, just give me a call or email.
ABOUT THE UNIT: The condo unit is 1001 sq feet plus a huge balcony overlooking King Street. It's a corner unit with a stunning South/West view of the city, the CN Tower, the lake and overlooking the rooftop patio where the film festival parties happen. It really is one of the best views in the city. If you don't believe me, ask the photographer who repeatedly rents out my place to photograph models in.
ABOUT THE BUILDING: The condo building is Festival Tower - It's the condo above the world-famous Toronto International Film Festival building: TIFF Bell Lightbox. You can enter the Lightbox theaters and restaurants without even having to go outside!
BUILDING AMENITIES: Bring your bathing suit and gym clothes, because the condo has an indoor pool and hot tub (with a waterfall between the two!), full 24-hour gym with TV's, free exercise classes daily, spinning/yoga room, pool table room, business lounge computers and free WiFi and restaurants in the building, as well as the movie theatres of TIFF Bell Lightbox. A schedule for the exercise classes will greet you on your bed.
YOU CAN USE: Please enjoy full use of the kitchen. Full set of fancy dishes, glasses, mugs, cutlery. Kettle. Teapot. High-end Miele fridge, stovetop, microwave oven. I've also got a high-end Miele washer/dryer if you want to do laundry. I even have an assortment of umbrellas for you to choose from. And shopping carts, if you want to watch to get groceries. If there's anything else you need, please don't hesitate to ask me. I just had a guest tell me in her review that she didn't know she was allowed to use the kitchen. So that's why I'm now specifying this in my ad. I want you to feel right at home! I don't have a TV at the moment, but in the business lounge on the 10th floor, there is a cable TV you can watch, and there are TV's in the gym on the wall and on the exercise equipment.
ECO AND ALLERGY FRIENDLY: I'm a big environmentalist, so I keep the condo non-toxic, eco-friendly and scent-free. The sheets/towels are washed in scent-free, environmentally-friendly detergent. The handsoap is natural and non-toxic. The cleaning products I use are GreenWorks or vinegar.
CREATIVE SPACE: A few years ago, I starred as the mini Scottish man in commercials I wrote for Nutri-Grain minis. So you're kind of renting from a mini celebrity. Pun intended. Also, I'm a voice actor (most recently in a Tim Hortons latte radio ad) and have a little recording set-up in my closet, so if you're a voice actor who needs to do an audition, we shall get it recorded! I'm also a songwriter and have a few guitars which you're welcome to strum. As well, I'm a screenwriter, copywriter, actor, comedian, illustrator, radio host and more. I even do consulting to help people get into creative fields. So if you want to talk about creative projects, share contacts, discuss how to pursue these jobs in Toronto, or plan a creative collaboration, feel free to chat with me on these topics. And if you need any help with creative projects while here, let me know.
PARKING: It seems more guests are coming with cars now and asking about parking, so I'm going to start offering my underground parking spot to my guests for an extra $25 a night. Alternately, you can look into parking in the TIFF Bell Lightbox public parking, or one of the many indoor and outdoor lots in area surrounding the intersection of King and John Streets.
TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM AIRPORT: Many guests are asking how best to get from the airport, so I'm pleased to offer my friend Jennifer's services. She has a car and is usually available to provide a ride to or from the airport for $30 a trip. Alternately, a cab from Pearson Airport is about $55, a shuttle to a nearby hotel is about $40 per person, or you can take public transit, which would be a bus to the subway, and then the subway to St. Andrew Station.
WANT THE WHOLE CONDO? If you want the entire 2 bedroom condo to yourself, you can book it at this link: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/193270
NEIGHBOURHOOD: The corner of King and John is in the heart of downtown Toronto. The streetcar is literally at your door. The subway is just a couple of blocks walk away. Downstairs in TIFF Bell Lightbox there are world-class movie theatres and wonderful restaurants. Across the street is a block of charming bars and restaurants. Broadway-quality theatres are right next door. More movie theatres are at Richmond/John, as are a Chapters book store, bars, restaurants, and even a bowling alley. The massive Eaton Centre mall is a 15 minute walk away. The shopping and excitement of Queen Street West is just two blocks north. The Financial District is a few blocks East. The CN Tower and Rogers Centre are just a few blocks south. China Town is a few blocks away too. If you want to experience the best of Toronto, you can't find a better location to stay in. Let me know if you want advice on what to check out. I was born in this city and am happy to share my thoughts!
COMING FOR A CONVENTION? The Metro Toronto Convention Centre is about a 3-minute walk down the street.
WANT TO CHAT? OR NOT CHAT? I'm very friendly and love to make new friends. As you can see from my reviews, many guests have become great friends whom I will keep in touch with and hopefully visit when I'm in their hometowns. So, if you feel like socializing, that's great. But if you aren't feeling social, that's fine too. I like to spend quiet time to myself, doing my work. I figure every guest has different social comfort levels, and I just don't want people to feel like they wanted to be sociable and were afraid to start a conversation. So, if you want to chat with me while you're here, please just let me know!
