This quirky place is surrounded by ancient wonders, medieval mysteries, elegant Renaissance palaces, and splashy baroque fountains. Breakfast generally begins in a forno (bakery), concludes at a coffee bar in one of Rome's most beautiful piazzas- all steps from my door. Emperor Claudius declared the city limit to end just two blocks from my door. As an enthusiast of ancient wonders that suits me perfectly. I walk or bike Rome’s winding narrow streets. Major sights-Coliseum, Roman Forum, Capitoline, Vatican- I see regularly. The local bike shop keeps my wheels working, my speedier transport for appointments. Sunday is the perfect leisure bike day in Rome and outskirts. Rome is a photographer’s dream- ancient & modern, intimate & grand, elegant & raw, refined & kooky (sometimes all framed together). As one who relishes full immersion in city life, I overlooked tripping out my apartment with the latest high-tech gadgets. No TV (programs are awful, radio is somewhat better). I prefer to sink into nearby Cinema Farnese that has a balcony, good selection of films, and great mini-festivals to see trendy French, arty Iranian films, or a favorite Korean horror director. Or rent films and watch on a laptop. Transport systems intrigue me, so I know Rome’s quite well. Periodically I crisscross Italy (esp. Southern), but not necessarily in a logical order.
