I am offering the spare bedroom in my own home. It's a nicely-sized first-floor apartment in a beautiful, well-maintained, large security-controlled complex in a quiet suburb. I live in the main en-suite bedroom. The spare bedroom has its own bathroom (toilet, basin and shower) across the hall. The room has a double bed and ample cupboard space.

You are welcome to use the kitchen and living area, as long as you keep things clean, neat and tidy. I am a healthy-living vegetarian, though I don't object to having meat in the house. Absolutely no smoking whatsoever, even outside.

The area is beautiful and safe, though not situated very conveniently for tourist attractions, so you will need to make use of taxis or have your own vehicle to get around. My work situation is fairly flexible - I work shifts and often work from home - so I may be available to drive you around if you'll cover the petrol costs.

There is a bus that runs from outside the apartment into central Johannesburg. The Sandton Gautrain station is about 15 minutes away; there is a bus route from the station to within about 3km of the apartment.

There is a good supermarket 5 minutes' walk away. The Brightwater Commons shopping and entertainment complex (www.brightwatercommons.co.za) is a 15-20 minute walk away, and features dozens of restaurants, shops, cinemas, mini-golf, a bowling alley, a laser-paintball arena, musical fountains, and a "flea market". The huge shopping complex Cresta Shopping Centre is a 5-minute drive/40-minute walk away.
