Hi everyone!

Montreal is such a great city – so we thought we’d ask one of our awesome hosts to share a little Montrealer knowledge and let us know what’s good when visiting. Where should I eat? Shop? Luckily, Montreal has no shortage of activity.

Meet Richard, a proud born Montrealer (who knows the city from A to Z), owner of Montreal – Le Cartier Studio and fabulous iStopOver Host.

Richard and a Guest outside of the B&B!

Here’s what Richard has to say about his charming city:

1. Why is Montreal such a great place to visit in the summer?

It’s the perfect blend of European and North American culture. There is a variety of festivals every week until Labour Day weekend with plenty of indoor and outdoor shows like the International Jazz Festival (one of the biggest in the world), FrancoFolies (French Musical Festival), International Fireworks Festival, Divers/Cité (largest gay festival in the world), Osheaga (rock & roll festival with world known bands, like The Arcade Fire). Sections of tourist areas transform into pedestrian streets in the summer (Old Montreal, section of Ste-Catherine street – Village area), it’s fun to walk around and get a feel for the neighborhoods. There is a great bicycle path in Mont Royal Park and along St-Lawrence River that offers gorgeous views.

2. What restaurants would you recommend to visitors?
Montreal is also known for its restaurants  and the variety, quality and affordable prices they offer. Here are a few we recommend:
La Diva -  -  Family Italian Cuisine with warm atmosphere, located in the Village Area
La Selva – - Peruvian restaurant, very affordable (C$15+), you can bring your own wine! Located in the Plateau Area
Grange Resto – - bar style restaurant, great atmosphere , located in Old Montreal
Au Petite Extra -  – typical French bistro, sample the best of Montreal French cuisine! Located in the Village area
Schwartz’s Deli – - famous Montreal smoked meat – a staple when visiting Montreal. You can find it in downtown Montreal.
Moishes -  – the best steak house in town! Located in downtown Montreal.
Le Grain De Sel -  – bistro with creative “fusion” food, located in the Village area
3. What is your perfect Montreal day like?
Start with a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop (with a delicious pastry) located right at the corner of the B&B. Walk around the neighbourhood (there are small quiet streets with beautiful stone houses and trees). Bike through Old Montreal and along the canal in the afternoon. Make sure to hit happy hour (5-7 pm) at the bar where you can meet old friends (and make new ones!). Finish with a relaxing dinner and a bottle of red wine on the terrace while watching the sunset and street activities.
