Hi guys,
I recently had the fortune of visiting the amazing city of Berlin. It was my first visit and it was great to see that the reports on the city were not exaggerated. This is a place where culture is thriving. There are so many interesting parts of the city that shouldn’t be overlooked. I came across many unique pubs and restaurants with great post-work, grab-a-beer vibes. Here are some areas of Berlin that are not to be missed:
The Neues Museum: I’m not a big ‘museum guy’ and generally stay away from typical place to visit when traveling – but the artifacts will blow you away. Right now, they have the bust of Nefertiti, which was an amazing sight to see. The entire museum is an amazing example of the restoration that Berlin has undergone-I highly recommend checking this out while you can.
The neighborhood of Mitte “Bezirk Mitte”: Mitte is such a great little borough – it’s in central Berlin and used to actually be a part of East Berlin, when it was surrounded by the Wall. After the the fall, Mitte joined forces with surrounding neighborhoods and became the vibrant, and bustling place it is today. Make sure to visit the Alexanderplatz – with a huge TV tower and World Clock it’s hard to miss. It just reminds you that Berlin takes pride in their appearance. The whole area has a very chilled out, bohemian vibe that’s great. It really lends itself to grabbing a post-work beer on a patio and just relaxing.
When you’re in the Mitte, don’t pass up on a burrito from Dolores. It’s great to see this Berlin establishment turning out delicious Californian style fare! The burritos are amazing, and I highly recommend sampling a local Beer instead of the Mexican one’s….
Prenzlauer Berg is another cool neighborhood to visit. You can’t walk far without having your choice of pubs, restaurants or nightlife. Like Mitte, it’s got a great art-scene and is a must to walk around, take in the buildings, and see what the locals are up to.
On Sunday, I took a boat ride along the Spree River, which winds it’s way through Berlin. I really got to see all the different neighborhoods and get a good feel for the city from a different perspective. We passed by the Berlin Train Station, which was phenomenal to see. It was rebuilt in 2006 for the World Cup, and it really stands out -such a modern structure interspersed among the old buildings.
Berlin is an amazing city that has been through so much – and rebuilt itself to something great! I really enjoyed my time in Berlin, and can’t wait to re-visit.
If you are visiting anytime soon – a great way to really immerse yourself in the city, is to live locally. With beautiful architecture and buildings, short term rentals offers a really unique stay in Berlin.
Cheers.
